Grant Burge 'Miamba' Shiraz 2008 (Barossa, SA)
The fruit is grown in the Miamba vineyard, at the southern end of the Barossa, near Lyndoch. The Miamba Vineyard has a long viticultural history, but when Grant bought it in 1983 it was completely bare. Careful planting and sustainable practices have returned this block to its former glory.

The 2008 Miamba Shiraz is inky black in colour, like many reds from the 2008 vintage; with incredible depth and intensity. The intense aromas of dark chocolate coated licorice, sweet confectionery coconut ice, dark flesh fruits like plums and black cherries are only enhanced by cedar like aromas and a hint of mint. The palate is equally generous with a typical 2008 palate of rich fruit flavours, melded together with the acidity and tannins which equate to a well balanced wine.

The 2008 Miamba is drinking well on release and will evolve and continue to reward with careful cellaring over the next 8 – 10 years. This opulent Shiraz is deserving of special food accompaniment and would ideally be enjoyed with full flavoured dishes such as slow cooked rabbit with pancetta, and sage and served with a soft polenta cake.

"Young chocolaty licorice blackberry wine that needs lots more time to shine"
3 Stars Winestate April 2010

Grant Burge 'Cameron Vale' Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (Barossa, SA)
The grapes for this wine were picked from Grant’s Cameron Vale vineyard, which was planted between 1971 and 1975, in a fertile area between Lyndoch and Williamstown, with a portion sourced from the cool Eden Valley.

The Cameron Vale Cabernet is a deep purple colour with an elegant yet complex nose of intense fruits; blackberry, plums and blueberries with mint and touches of subtle dark chocolate. The palate is as intense as the nose with generous dark berry fruits, ripe plums, aromatic spices and toasted French oak. A full bodied, yet silken feeling palate with fine grained tannins and well integrated French oak; with excellent weight and persistence and a finish you will not forget in a hurry.

The intense and complex characters of this wine would be a delicious match to aged beef or roasted kangaroo fillets with a sautéed mushroom sauce and a side of steamed green beans and broccoli.

Grant Burge 'Hillcot' Melt 2008 (Barossa, SA)
Grant Burge was a pioneer of Melt in the Barossa and planted the first vineyard of this red variety here at the Hill cot Vineyard in 1982.When he produced his first straight Melt wine there were only two others available in Australia, and although there are many more now, Grant Burge Hill cot Melt is still very popular, both in Australia and in the international markets.

This 2008 Hill cot Melt is deep ruby red in colour with ripe plums and blackberries, sweet spice and hints of dark chocolate enticing the nose immediately. The aromas are complimented by a subtle herbal earthiness, more dark berry fruits and sweet raspberries with rich chary oak. The palate is soft and fleshy and loaded with the flavours continuing from the nose. The wine has excellent structure with soft approachable tannins and an elegant lingering finish.

This medium bodied wine is ready to enjoy now or over the next five years. It is a terrific match with rack of lamb, grilled vegetables and rosemary potatoes.

Grant Burge 'Daly Road' Shiraz Mourvedre 2007 (Barossa, SA)
Daly Road has deep red, sandy loam soils, perfect for producing finely textured wine with great complexity. Shiraz and Mourvedre thrive at Daly Road, where the finesse and character of the south of the Barossa Valley shines. Final blend is 68% Shiraz, 32% Mourvedre.

The 2007 Shiraz Mourvedre is a deep crimson colour with amazingly complex aromas from the combination of these two varieties; choc-coated licorice, cinnamon and fruit cake with dried basil and oregano leaves and a hint of black pepper. The palate is equally as complex, with earthy leather characters, preserved cherries, blackcurrants and red berry fruit spices. The wine finishes with rich round tannins- a serious mouth filling wine.

This wine is looking fabulous now and would suggest minimal ageing if you really wish to enjoy the subtlety and complexity of this wine. A great food wine well suited to truly elegant dishes; try a seared beef fillet on a risen bed with spinach and truffle butter.

Grant Burge Summers Chardonnay 2007 (Barossa & Adelaide Hills, SA)
Grant selects his fruit from prime cooler climate vineyards with a large portion of the fruit picked from his Summers vineyard in Eden Valley and the remainder coming from the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills.

The 2007 Summers Chardonnay is an elegant and luscious wine, with pale straw colouring. The wine has an intense and complex nose showing sweet ripe fruits and subtle green melons, complimented with creamy hazelnut and warm stone fruit aromas. The palate is equally enticing with a rich, creamy mouth feel and melon flavours continuing from the nose. It is beautifully balanced with integrated oak along with mineral and lime acidity, and has terrific length. It is drinking well now and will develop further complexities with correct short to mid-term cellaring.

Although elegant, this wine can support full flavoured food such as Asian spiced quail with coconut rice, roasted pork loin with fennel or a creamy seafood jumbo.
Notes from Grant Burge

'A big, rich toasty wine, pushing toward fresh figs and almonds; rich and deep on the palate, but a little heavy on the finish.' 89/100 James Holiday

With a bonus bottle of:

Grant Burge 'Filsell' Shiraz 2008 (Barossa Valley, SA)
Grant's Filsell vineyard with near century-old vines, is considered one of the best vineyards in the Barossa Valley, and consistently produces fruit of great intensity and concentration. Planted in the early 1920’s this vineyard also produces the fruit for Grant’s flagship Shiraz, the highly acclaimed Meshach; with Filsell known to loyal followers as the wines younger brother.

The 2008 Filsell Shiraz is a little touch of magic- the wine has incredible depth of colour, almost black with purple hues. The bouquet is a symphony of aromas with ripe blackberries, ground cinnamon, vanilla, mocha tones and even a hint of freshly baked bread. A touch of new leather is present and complimented with toasted cashew nuts, dark chocolate, and subtle aniseed. A rich and abundantly complex palate, the Shiraz is one of remarkable intensity and sumptuousness. With sweet forest berry fruit flavours, dark chocolate and intense vanilla bean this lusciously rich and full bodied wine shows all the best aspects of a classic Filsell. The rounded tannins are beautifully structured to carry this rich and weighty wine with an effortless grace through the mid palate to a long and elegant finish.
A wine to be approached with both reverence and gusto, and well suited to be enjoyed with sumptuous meal; the 2008 Filsell Shiraz will be excellent drinking on release but will reward those with patience and careful cellaring up to 15 years.
Notes from Grant Burge

"...Completing his latest red offerings are 2008 Filsell Shiraz, 2007 Balthasar Shiraz Viognier and newcomer 2005 Corryton Park Cabernet Sauvignon — all pased the test with flying colours!"
John Fordham, Sunday Telegraph

'Leaner style, with licorice and plums lifting off the nose and great concentration and length and persistence of lovely clean varietal fruit flavours.'
