Zilzie Estate S23
Shiraz 2008 (Victoria, Barossa Wrattonbully)
2 silver, 3 bronze medals
Few would know it,
but Zilzie are actually one of Fosters largest grape growers. The philosophy is
– sell the bulk, and cherry pick the best for your own label. This is Exhibit
A...
Sourced from fruit from the Zilzie estate vineyard as well as
properties in the Barossa and Wrattonbully, this is produced with a dollop of
Viognier for aromatic lift and brightness.
Bright purple in colour, this
is very round, smooth and bright, with jubey black and red fruit, with a
chocolatey grunt through the mid palate and some soft tannins to finish. Rich,
plump and
delicious.
Lyrup Crossing
Merlot 2007 (Riverland, SA)
Rich ripe and
ripe to go, this light to medium bodied Merlot shows ruby red fruit, a seasoning
of coconut oak and fine tannins. Fine value quaffer from the value masters at
Salena estate.
Jacobs Creek
Grenache Shiraz 2008 (Multi Regional Blend)
1 gold medal
Light, fresh and fruity red
with mellow juicy flavours that would respond to light chilling. Appealing red
that's dangerously easy to drink. Simple but full of charm. Good value at the
price.'
Bob Campbell, www.bobswinereviews.com
Genre Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (Karadoc,
Vic)
A brand spanking new release, this is bursting
with tropical fruit, including guava, passionfruit and just a flick of mango on
a crisp, light and juicy palate. Refreshing and simple, this is a very lively
dry white.
Mcwilliams Select Brut
Reserve NV (South Eastern Australia)
This is crafted
purely for the restaurant trade, where it sells for $25 a bottle on your typical
pub wine list. A vibrantly fruity sparkler with fresh citrus and melon flavours
on a round & juicy, sherbety palate.
De Bortoli Willowglen
Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (Riverina, NSW)
Another wine largely
built for the restaurant trade, this range is built specifically to complement
good food. Suitably it's a light, crisp and simple style built for easy drinking
pleasure.
The De Bortoli Willowglen SSB is pale straw in colour with
fresh green hues. The nose is clean and grassy with a hint of tropical fruit.
The palate is soft and round with clean citrus flavours on the
finish.
